Ruth Freiherr – She is a Healer

We are so inspired by this 93-year-old who has decided to make every moment count and to make the world a better place for each person she meets.

“As a Reiki Master, I channeled energy and used physical touch to help heal ailments, relieve pain and hopefully mend some broken spirits. I grew up during the depression and wanted to find a way to help others as I got older. I used my hands for many years to make people feel better, and I taught others how to do so too. It was incredibly rewarding. I still channel positive energy through people I meet when I touch their shoulder, shake their hand or give them a hug.

Although I may not physically touch each person I see, I believe I can positively impact their day. I decided that I have control over my own happiness and that I need to make each day count for myself and for others. I make it a goal to make as many people smile each day as I can. This may mean simply saying hello and smiling in the hallway, or inquiring about someone’s day, or acting silly enough to make them at least give me a half smile or ‘courtesy smile.’

I am around people my age frequently, so this task can be challenging at times, but after I get them to smile once, it is never hard to get them to smile again. In fact, it is contagious and they understand how receiving and giving something as simple as a smile can improve a day or a life. When asked why I do it, I tell people that I do it for me and for others because I feel the healing warmth myself when someone else accepts my love. We all have the power to heal.”
